Sky Cloister

Marfa, Texas

Architecture 272

Spring 2011

Studio Critic: Tracy Moir McClean

This semester began with researching the small town of Marfa, Texas and the rural, southeastern landscape.  The goal of this design project was to reimagine the typology of the cloister in a retreat motel for visitors to the town.  The site for this project contains a stone ruin which I chose to integrate into the ground floor public space of the motel.  The motel typology was developed down to the module of the room, which is then repeated in bars  framing the central courtyard.
